Improve How Your Mask Protects You
When choosing a mask, look at how well it fits, how well it filters the air, and how many layers it has. Make sure your mask fits snugly against your face. Gaps can let air with respiratory droplets leak in and out around the edges of the mask. Pick a mask with layers to keep your respiratory droplets in and others’ out. A mask with layers will stop more respiratory droplets getting inside your mask or escaping from your mask if you are sick.
Stay Safe,

Parents and Care Givers of Asthma Students:
If your student has Asthma, please contact me, Brenda McIntyre, at Arapahoe Schools 856-9333 ext. 150, so we may update the Asthma Action Plan.
Updated Recommendations for students using a nebulizer to deliver asthma medications be switched to a metered dose inhaler (MDI) with spacer or dry powder inhaler. This change is due to the transmission risk posed to the student due to the larger droplet size of nebulized medication going deep into the lungs and to care providers delivering nebulizer treatments, should the student be a carrier of covid-19 (Amirav & Newhouse, 2020)
I am always available if you have any questions or concerns as well!
Ho'hou and Stay Safe,

The FCSD #38 Board of Trustees recognized the Fall 2020 Student Achievers at the January 25, 2021 meeting.
Congratulations to all of the students. Here are a few pictures of these awesome students.

Last night, a majority of the FCSD#38 Board of Trustees voted to begin offering in-person instruction under a Tier II/Hybrid Model beginning Monday, February 15, 2021. However, parents can chose to continue remote learning for their student for the remainder of the semester if they do not want their student to participate in-person.
Our Tier II/hybrid model allows for up to half of students in the building at one time to attend class in person two days of the week. Students who opt-in for in-person instruction will be assigned to attend either on Monday and Tuesday or Wednesday and Thursday. Students will participate virtually during the days they are not physically in the classroom.
Surveys will be going out today so parents can indicate whether they are choosing to continue remote education or if they will be sending the student to school buildings.

All Hinono'etiit Students,
Please remember to check and finish your assignments for all your Special classes: Art, P.E. Library, and Arapaho Culture.

Tips on Celebrating Martin Luther King Day
If you are celebrating the holiday with people outside your household, make sure you follow steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Here are some activities that are safer to do.
*Drop off a meal to a neighbor.
*Make hygiene kits for local homeless shelters.
*Send care packages to deployed troops.
*Plan an outdoor activity with people who live with you, such as a park clean up or walk.
*Attend a virtual speech or event, such as the annual religious ceremony.
*Plan a celebration for the people you live with.
*Reach out virtually to family, friends, and neighbors.
*Watch a livestreamed celebration from your home.
*Take care of yourself and do something you enjoy, such as reading a book or taking a walk.
*Pick up a special meal from a local restaurant to share with your household or drop off to a neighbor.
*Share CDC prevention messages with your friends and family.
And not just for Martin Luther King Day, but for all holidays, you can use any of these ideas. Stay Safe

Arapahoe Middle School Students!
Arapahoe Middle School would like to announce the opening of the student store, "Falcon Mart". Falcon Mart has been a part of the middle school leadership program for the past 6 years. The store supports student achievements in; academics, behaviors, and social influences. Students are encouraged and empowered to be the best student they can be, character counts. AMS staff recognize students when at their best or when they need some extra encouragement.
Students can earn Falcon Bucks from AMS staff when students are engaged in daily attendance, on-line coursework, zoom meeting attendance, PBIS Expectations, Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. AMS staff can recognize students for things like, turning in assignments on time, being on time to class, perfect attendance, respectful behaviors during class time in person/or on-line virtual classrooms. Students are aware of the PBIS Expectations as it was part of the student orientation this year, for virtual and in-classroom expectations; as has been in past school years.
AMS student's each have a personal Bank account and password called Bankaroo. AMS staff deposit Falcon Bucks for above reasons; into the student accounts. The students can monitor their own accounts daily. The student is notified via Zoom meeting for their shopping day.

Letter to Parents and Community about Arapahoe Schools Reopening status.
August 5, 2020
Dear Arapahoe School Community,
During their Special Meeting on August 4, 2020, the Board of Trustees voted to authorize Arapahoe Schools to operate in the Tier III status until October 16, 2020. This means that school buildings will be closed to students and Arapahoe School Students will participate in classes virtually for the first quarter of school. The Board of Trustees will reexamine this status on October 1, 2020.
Under the District’s Tier III Smart Start plan:
• The first day of school is Wednesday, August 19, 2020.
• Enrolled students will receive a device from the District for use at home to complete online learning programs.
o 3rd – 12th Grade devices will be delivered to the home on or before August 19.
o K-2nd Grade devices will be distributed during individual or small group parent/student/teacher orientations scheduled the first week of school. Information about scheduling this orientation will follow.
• The District will work with families who do not have internet connectivity in the home in order to pair them with resources to ensure students have access to the internet.
• Meals will be delivered to all enrolled students beginning August 19.
• Fall sports (X-Country, Volleyball & Football) are cancelled.
While our teachers and staff are eager to have students back in the classrooms on campus, we think that operating in Tier III status is the best option for our students because of Tribal Health Orders on the Reservation and the level of positive cases and community spread of COVID-19 in areas our students live.
The FCSD #38 Board of Trustees and staff encourages our students and families to follow guidelines to keep themselves and our community healthy during this pandemic. We are sending our sympathy to those who have lost loved ones to this disease. We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through this together.
Respectfully,
Roy B. Brown
Superintendent

Tous Falcon Family,
This morning we are sending our condolences to those who have been impacted by recent loss. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of our students and families.
Self-care at this time can be challenging. Please try to use healthy coping skills such as those sent home for your elementary students each week. Some great skills to help cope with change, loss and life are taking deep breaths, counting, singing, dancing, laughing, sharing memories, trying your best to be positive, arts/crafts, and reading books as a family.
Change and loss are challenging, especially during this mandatory isolation. Please know our hearts are with you all during this time. Also, if you know individuals that are unable to keep themselves safe due to depression or dealing with grief during this challenging time, please call 911 and get them help. Everyone matters!
--Dr. Nunez

Hey there Arapahoe Falcons!
"Dr. Nunez and Ms. Spriggs would like everyone to remember how helpful taking deep breaths can be. They would also like to challenge you to teach someone else in your home how to take deep breaths and practice together. Breathe in, hold it, breath out and repeat.
If you want to, you can post videos here in the comments with you breathing or teaching someone else how deep breathing helps us all. Cyber hugs sent your way!"
