Our very own SuperHero! Congratulations Mrs. Beers for completing the SuperHero Phone Call Challenge!!!!

Expressing our deep appreciation for all that Wayne C'Hair did for our district and community.

Rosary: January 14th @ 7pm
Great Plains Hall
Wake: 62 C’Hair Lane, Arapahoe WY

Funeral: January 15th, 2024 @ 10am
Great Plains Hall
Woh’uu’ei has seen 78 winters. He was born in a time when our People lived quiet, humble lives. Those days were peaceful. He grew up in a time when there was no electricity, no cars, no radios, no televisions. Everyone got along well and families were well intact. He sees himself with one foot in the past. Today, he tries to hang on to that way of life.
He attended St. Stephens Mission throughout his early years. He was drafted into the Army in 1966. In 1967 he was sent to Vietnam for one year. He received honorable discharge in 1968.
Woh’uu’ei is a lifelong teacher. In 1970, he began teaching Arapaho language at St. Stephens Indian School. Him and Pius Moss were the first Arapaho language teachers. At that time, the elders back then saw that there was a decline in the language and so they hired Arapaho language teachers to protect our Way of Life, because our Way of Life is through our language.
He taught at St. Stephens for two years, then he taught Arapaho language at Jefferson Elementary in Riverton, from 1972-1974. From 1974-1976, he taught Arapaho for two years at the first Alternative school in Riverton. That school is not there anymore. He then went back to St. Stephens Indian School and taught Arapaho language to the high school students for 22 years, from 1976-1998. He also taught K-8 students at Fremont County School District #38- Arapahoe School for two years from 1998-2000. He also provided adult Arapaho language classes at that time.
In 2002, he began teaching college coursework at Central Wyoming College. He developed his own system of teaching. He developed the “White Star System,” where he uses symbols to teach students how to develop their own sentences.
He taught at the University of Wyoming from 2004-2018. His students recognized him as Professor C’Hair. He taught in the UW Linguistics Department and helped many students understand the linguistics aspect of Arapaho language. His teaching methodologies have proven effective and he has produced many beginning conversational speakers throughout his teaching career.
He is currently the Director of the Arapaho Language Immersion Preschool in Arapahoe. He offers free classes for adults once/week on Tuesdays from 2-4pm. He continues to assist local schools when called upon, where he shares traditional Arapaho stories, protocol, and life ways of the Arapaho People. He resides in Arapahoe and has two children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He has dedicated his life to the Arapaho People, so our sacred language will survive.
